About the Merseyside Maritime Museum .







At Merseyside Maritime Museum you'll find out about the companies, people and ships connected to this great port. You can see boats, paintings, ship models, objects from wrecks, ships, uniforms and much more. And it is all FREE!

What to see in Merseyside Maritime Museum :

Basement. In the basement you will find the Seized gallery; the national museum of HM Revenue and Customs. The displays tell the story of smuggling and Britain’s taxes and duties.The Emigration gallery, where you'll find out about the nine million people who emigrated through the port, is also on this floor.

Ground floor. Here you'll find the entrance, the information desk and Liverpool: World Gateway, a display of ships and shipping companies.The shop, toilets, lockers and cafe are also on the ground floor.

First floor. There are several displays on this floor. There's the popularTitanic, Lusitania and Empress of Ireland gallery. You can learn about Liverpool's role in The Battle of the Atlantic during World War Two, and find out what it's like to spend your LIfe At Sea.

Second floor. The Maritime Archives and Library are found here. There's also the Art and the Sea Gallery, and the temporary exhibition space.

Third floor. This floor is home to the International Slavery Museum.

Fourth floor.Here you'll find the Maritime Dining Rooms and the lecture theatre.

On the dockside. There are ships, buoys, anchors and other objects.

What to do at Merseyside Maritime Museum. As well as the permanent displays throughout the museum we also have special events and exhibitions. These are all FREE.

Exhibitions. These are temporary displays and can be seen in the exhibition space on the second floor. You can find out about current exhibitions by following the 'Exhibitions' link in the main navigation panel beneath the Merseyside Maritime Museum logo on this page.

Events. We regularly hold talks, workshops, children's events and other activities, some of which are tied in with the current exhibition. You can find out what is available on the day you visit by following the 'Events and activities' link in the main navigation panel beneath the Merseyside Maritime Museum logo. All events and activities are free. There is a regular programme of British Sign Language interpreted events.
